  4. House Bill 2276 prohibits school district or public charter school from advancing student beyond third grade if student is not reading at or above third grade level.

    On January 11th, the bill went through the first reading and was referred to the Speaker's desk. On the 21st, it was referred to Education.

  16. The bill I chose was bill number 2276. This bill is designed to make it so a child in the third grade will not be able to pass the third grade unless they are able to read at a 3rd grade level. So far, the bill was introduced to the House Jan. 11, and referred to Education on Jan. 21.

    This is the most recent article I can find regarding this issue, it is not directly from our state, but it is essentially the same bill. There aren't any articles (that I have found yet) that directly regard Oregon's bill.

  17. I'm following House Bill 3241 which would restrict picketing from occurring at funeral services.
    This bill proposes that picketers may stay to embrace thier freedom of speech, but must stay 300 feet from the event with a one-hour buffer zone.

  25. Senate bill 742 would make it so that illegal immigrants who grew up in oregon could still go to an oregon college and pay in state tuition. This would greatly increase the high school graduation rate and success of immigrants in oregon, as they would have much more motivation to get through high school and go on to college.     House Bill 2233: Directs Sate Board of Pharmacy to adopt rules making nicotine a Schedule III controlled substance.

    A Schedule III substance means that the drug has has a less potential for abuse or addiction than Schedule II substances (high tendency for abuse and some medical use) and Schedule I substances (high tendency for abuse and no medical use) and has currently accepted medical use.

  42. House Bill 2602 which would create a law stopping unsafe using of bicycles. The main arguement for the law is that it is unsafe to ride on a bicycle while wearing headphones or a bluetooth device or cell phone.
